My Weekend at Langkah Syabas Beach Resort, Kinarut, Sabah

A Homey Stay by the Shore

Langkah Syabas Beach Resort is a cozy beachfront gem tucked away in Kinarut, just a 30-minute drive from Kota Kinabalu city (depending on traffic) and not too far from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). With 25 charming chalet-style units, the place has a warm, intimate vibe that makes it the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway.

Right from the moment you arrive, you’re surrounded by peaceful nature. There’s a big open green lawn—perfect for team-building, chill gatherings, or even a wedding—and just beyond that, a lovely stretch of beach.

This is the beach view I’m talking about—there’s even a swing! It’s such a calm, beautiful spot, and honestly, I can totally see why people would choose to get married here. The lawn’s spacious enough to host all kinds of events or celebrations. During my stay, I even got to watch a wedding from the verandah of my chalet—such a magical little moment.

The whole place has a cozy, laid-back vibe. The bed was comfy, and although the chalet was simple, it had everything I needed for a restful stay. Sometimes, that’s all you want—nothing too fancy, just clean, quiet, and comfortable.

This is the chalet—it really does feel like a little village house! Each one has its own verandah where you can sit outside and enjoy the beach breeze at night. You don’t even have to walk all the way to the shore to feel it. It’s so laid-back and peaceful.

A Place That Remembers You

Inside the restaurant, there’s a traditional bar that serves both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including refreshing piña coladas if you’re in the mood for something tropical!

One charming tradition I loved at Langkah Syabas is how they recognize returning guests. If you’re a regular, the owner might even place your name tag on the bar—a small but thoughtful gesture that shows how much they value personal connections.

It’s these little touches that make Langkah Syabas feel like more than just a resort—it feels like a place where you’re genuinely remembered.

Oops, I Forgot to Check Out! 😱

Something small but memorable happened on my last morning there.

I was having a quiet breakfast at the café, watching the team take down tents from the wedding the night before. I noticed the female manager calmly overseeing everything. Although I didn’t get a chance to speak with her, just watching her, I could tell she truly cared about the place and her team.

Then, I realized—oops— 😰 I hadn’t checked out yet or returned my chalet key! I rushed over, a bit worried the housekeeping team might think I was trying to extend my stay. But the manager just smiled and said, with a warm Sabahan accent, “Pelan-pelan saja… indak apa baitu.” (“Take your time, it’s all good.”)

That moment summed up the whole vibe of Langkah Syabas for me. Time moved slower there. No rush, no stress. It felt like kampung—it felt like home!

How's the food?

I had both breakfast and lunch at the resort, and every bite was a delight. They serve a mix of Western dishes and local Kadazan-Dusun favourites, making the experience feel extra special—and so wonderfully Sabahan. It’s always a treat when the food reflects the culture of the place you’re in.

For my Muslim friends and readers, you’ll be happy to know that Langkah Syabas serves halal food. It’s a great option to keep in mind for your next family day, team-building trip, date, or even a quiet weekend escape. The peaceful, family-friendly vibe just adds to the charm.

So while I was enjoying my breakfast the next morning, I also got to witness the housekeeping team working hard — removing all the tablecloths and seat covers to replace them with fresh ones. It felt a bit like having breakfast at home while your siblings are busy doing house chores.

Although I didn’t get the chance to enjoy dinner at the resort, I can totally imagine how lovely it must be at night. The sound of waves gently crashing onto the shore, soft lights strung along the ceiling, and the ocean breeze… It must be such a romantic and cosy spot—especially for a book lover like me.

I also have to say, I loved the rattan chairs. They added that charming kampung feel I’ve missed so much. You know, when you live in a big city, everything is high-tech—giant screens, tight schedules, constant noise. Sometimes, your heart just longs for something simpler. A place that’s quiet, grounded, and a little closer to nature. Langkah Syabas gave me exactly that!

If you’re into swimming, there’s a pool for both adults and kids.
